Requirements

WhatNeededNotes
Server softwarePaperThe plugin does not declare Folia support, so run it on Paper.
Minecraft1.21.1 or newerJars are built per Minecraft version, see Choose the right jar.
Java21 or 251.21.x servers use Java 21. 26.x servers use Java 25.
WorldGuardRequiredLobby and arena are WorldGuard regions. Use a build that supports your Minecraft version.
WorldEditRequiredWorldGuard needs it, and AlphaEvent lists it as a hard dependency too.
NetworkOutgoing HTTPSNeeded for server approval and the optional update notice.
PlaceholderAPIOptionalOnly for the %alphaevent_*% placeholders.

Choose the right jar

Jars are built per Minecraft version, and the file name tells you which one:

AlphaEvent-<version>-mc-<minecraft>-java<java>.jar

AlphaEvent-3.3.0-mc-1.21.11-java21.jar

Use the jar whose mc- part matches your server. Jars for 1.21.x need Java 21 and jars for 26.x need Java 25.

Install

  1. Install WorldGuard and WorldEdit and make sure they start cleanly.
  2. Add the AlphaEvent jar to plugins/ and start the server. The plugin creates its files in plugins/AlphaEvent/: config.yml, an events/ folder with one file per event, and a lang/ folder with the text.
  3. Get approved. A new server is pending and the plugin stays off. The console prints your server id. Send it to AlphaStudio, wait for approval and restart. See Server approval.
  4. Set up an arena by following the Quick start or Arena setup.

Arenas are saved in arenas/, written by the plugin. Create and change them with the commands.

Update

  1. Back up plugins/AlphaEvent/.
  2. Replace the jar and restart. /aevent reload never loads a new jar.

New settings and messages from a newer jar are added to your files on start, with their comments. Nothing you changed is overwritten.

Upgrading from 2.x: 3.0 moves the text to lang/, Spleef's settings to events/spleef.yml and the arena to arenas/spleef/main.yml. It does this itself on the first start and keeps your old files in backup/2.x/. Custom message edits are not carried over (the text and colours changed); copy them from the backup. See Configuration → Upgrading.
Upgrading from 1.x: 2.0 added server approval, and an unapproved server will not run the plugin. Read that page before updating a live server.
