Selling
How a sale is priced and paid, and every setting that shapes it.
On this page
The sell menu
/sell (or /sellgui) opens a double-chest menu titled in dark gray. Players drop items into it, the menu shows a live estimate of what they are worth, and a centred sell button pays them out.
- Safe handling. Dragging items in and shift-clicking from the inventory both work. Shift-click fills the first free slot.
- Nothing is lost. Items that cannot be sold, or are in a world where selling is blocked, stay with the player.
- Not sellable: any item with a custom model data value is never sold, so custom items from other plugins stay safe.
- Other menus are reached from it: progress per category, the sell history, a price list, and a settings menu with the worth toggle and the plugin version.
Selling without the menu
| Command | Sells |
|---|---|
/sellall | Everything sellable in your inventory. |
/sellall <material> | Only that material, for example /sellall wheat. |
/sellall category <name> | Everything in one category, for example /sellall category crops. |
/sellhand | The item in your main hand. With sell-hand-confirm: true it first quotes the price, and /sellhand confirm within 30 seconds sells it. |
Pricing
prices:
calculation-method: "auto"
shop-hook-enabled: true
default-price: 0.1
| Method | How an item is priced |
|---|---|
auto | Recommended. The external shop price first (ShopGUIPlus or EconomyShopGUI), then the item's category price, then default-price. |
shop_only | The external shop price only. An item the shop does not list cannot be sold. |
config_only | The category prices only. Shop plugins are ignored. |
- An unlisted item sells for
default-priceper item inautoandconfig_onlymode. Set it to 0 to make unlisted items unsellable. The shipped value is 0.1. - Shop prices skip the category multiplier. A shop price already includes the shop's own modifiers, so only the sell event boost is applied on top.
- Shop link.
shop-hook-enabledmust be true for any shop lookup. If the key is missing and a shop plugin is found at startup, the link turns on and the console says so. Set it to false to keep internal prices only. - Enchantments do not add value.
enchantments-value.ymlships in the plugin folder, but this version does not read it, so an enchanted item sells for its normal price.
Run /alphasell diag to see the active method, which hooks are available, and, with an item in hand, its shop price and final quote.
Categories and progression
Every item can belong to a category, and every category levels up as the player earns from it. A higher level pays a bigger multiplier on that category's items.
| Category | Items shipped |
|---|---|
crops | 48 |
ores | 52 |
mob | 46 |
natrual | 115 (the key is spelled this way in the shipped config) |
armor | 95 |
fish | 20 |
book | 2 |
potions | 4 |
blocks | 664 |

CARROT:

- Multiplier.
base-multiplier + level × 0.1. With the default 1.1 and 20 levels, a category runs from 1.1x at level 0 to 3.0x at level 19. - Levelling. A category counts what the player has earned from it. Each entry in
level-pricesis the total needed to leave that level, so the first level takes 25,000 earned and the next 150,000. - Payout.
price-per-unit × amount × multiplier, then times the sell event boost while an event runs. - Menu look. Each category has a
progress-iconand acategories-iconwith a name, material, lore, flags and a%multiplier%,%progress%and%progress-bar%in the lore. - No off switch in this version. The
disable-categoriesandfeatures.categorieskeys are in the config but are not read. To stop category pricing, useprices.calculation-method: shop_only, or set a category'sbase-multiplierto 1 and itslevel-pricesto a single huge number.
price-per-unit and level-prices to your server's economy.Sell events
sell-event:
enabled: false
schedule-interval: 500 # seconds between starts
duration-seconds: 180
sell-boost: 1.25
boss-bar:
enabled: true
text: '<#00FF12>★ ꜱᴇʟʟ ᴇᴠᴇɴᴛ 򇨣» <#FFFFFF>%time%'
color: GREEN
broadcast:
- '{prefix}<#00FF12>ꜱᴇʟʟ ᴇᴠᴇɴᴛ ꜱᴛᴀʀᴛᴇᴅ.'
While an event runs, every payout is multiplied by sell-boost (1.25x by default). Staff start or stop one with /sellevent start and /sellevent stop. With enabled: true an event also starts by itself every schedule-interval seconds. The broadcast supports {prefix} and {boost}, and the boss bar counts down with %time%. The shortest allowed interval and duration are 5 seconds, and the boost cannot go below 1.0. enabled only controls the schedule: a staff-started event works either way.
Sell Axe
A netherite axe that sells a chest's contents when the player breaks the chest with it. The chest is not destroyed, and its items are sold with the normal prices, category progress and event boost.
- Time limited. Staff give one with
/alphasell give sellaxe <player> <days>. After that many days it expires, can no longer be used, and the player is told. - Look. The name, lore and expiry text are in
lang/messages.yml(tool-name,tool-lore,tool-expiry-lore,tool-expired). The item type, unbreakable flag and enchantments come frombuilt-in-items.amethyst-sell-axeintools-config.yml. - Blocked worlds. Where selling is blocked, the axe does nothing and says so.
tools-config.yml also contains a multitool, tree chopper and drill from the plugin this one grew out of. Only the Sell Axe entry is used.History and worth
| Command | Shows |
|---|---|
/sellhistory | A paged menu of what the player has sold, with totals per material. |
/worth | A price list sorted by highest price, with sorting by lowest price and alphabetical. |
/worth hand | What the item in your hand would sell for right now. |
/worth toggle | Switches your personal worth setting. /worth toggle globally flips it for the whole server and needs alphasell.admin. |
worth-enabled is the default for the personal setting. In this version the worth setting is only stored and shown in the settings menu, and does not add worth text to item tooltips.
