Player settings
How players control messages, chat and payments, and how to customise the menus.
On this page
Players control how they receive messages, chat and payments from one menu, /settings. Every choice is saved per player in chat-preferences.yml, so it survives restarts, and nothing here needs a permissions plugin: the default for all of it is "everyone".
The settings menu
/settings opens a 27-slot menu with six items:
| Item | Same as | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Private messages | /msgtoggle | Stops or resumes private messages from Alpha-system commands, including /msg and /r. |
| Public chat | /chattoggle | Hides public chat for this player only. |
| Incoming payments | /paytoggle | Allows or refuses /pay transfers to this player. |
| Payment confirmation | /payconfirm | Asks for confirmation before large payments. |
| Night vision | /nv | Toggles night vision. |
| Ignore list | /ignore list | Opens the list of ignored players, where a click removes someone. |
Every toggle command, typed without on or off, flips the current state.
Private messages and public chat
/msgtoggle off
Blocks incoming private messages. You can still send them, but you will not receive the reply until you turn it back on.
/chattoggle off
Hides public player chat for you. Command feedback, system messages and staff channels such as /sc stay visible, and you can still write in chat.
Ignoring players
/ignore Steve # ignore, or unignore if already ignored
/ignore Steve on
/ignore Steve off
/ignore list
The target can be online or any player the server has cached. What an ignore hides is controlled by the server:
ignore:
maximum-players: 100 # largest ignore list a player can keep
public-chat: true # ignoring hides that player's public chat
private-messages: true # ignoring blocks that player's private messages
The two switches are independent, so a server can make ignore affect only private messages, only public chat, or both. Turn the whole system off with features.ignore: false.
Payments
Incoming payments
/paytoggle off makes /pay refuse transfers to that player, even while they are offline. It only affects /pay. Rewards from other plugins, admin balance changes and Vault deposits still arrive.
Confirmation for large payments
payments:
confirmation:
enabled: true # master switch
required: false # true = nobody can skip confirmation
threshold: 10000.0 # payments at or above this amount need confirming
timeout-seconds: 30 # 1 to 300
- The player pays with
/pay <player> <amount>. - The amount is at or above
threshold, and eitherrequiredis true or the player turned on/payconfirm. The confirmation menu opens, or a chat prompt if no menu is configured. - They confirm with the menu button or
/pay confirm, or cancel with/pay cancel. The balance and the receiver's settings are checked again before the money moves.
A pending confirmation is dropped when the player quits, when the timeout passes, or when they start a new payment. Amounts below the threshold are sent straight away.
Customising the menus
The three player menus live in menus/players/ and use the same layout as DeluxeMenus:
| File | Menu | Built-in placeholders |
|---|---|---|
settings.yml | The six toggles | — |
ignore.yml | Ignored players, 54 slots, paged | {player} {ignored_player} {ignored_uuid} {ignored_count} {page} {pages} |
payment-confirm.yml | Confirm and cancel buttons | {player} {recipient} {amount} {seconds} |
- Menu keys:
menu_title,size,open_commands, and per itemmaterial,slotorslots,display_name,lore,left_click_commands. Right-click and shift-click lists work too. - On and off looks: the settings menu has
states.enabledandstates.disabled, and each toggle can move, hide, or change its material, name and lore. - Click actions:
[player],[console],[message],[sound],[close], plus the internal actions documented at the top of each menu file. - Italics are removed from every item name and lore line automatically.
- Run
/as reloadafter an edit, then reopen the menu to see it.
Upgrading older menu files
Older versions used a different menu layout. When you update, Alpha-system converts old menu files to the current format and keeps a copy named *.legacy-v1.yml next to each converted file, so custom text, materials and lore are not lost.
